Home, Sweet Home: Cusco, Peru
After our awesome adventure in the rainforest, eating termites, catching piranhas, and jumping rope with the local monkeys, we finally landed at our temporary home in Peru (for the next 4 weeks). Only two weeks left for Tracy :( Although we miss the excitement of being dirty, crazed backpackers, we are now enjoying daily showers and hanging out with our wonderful Peruvian families. Our new routine consists of Spanish classes from 9 to 1, a typical Peruvian lunch with our families (along with more Spanish practice), and that same meal for dinner. In our down time we explore the amazing city of Cusco. We have been very lucky to land in modern Peruvian homes equipped with tvs and internet access (but no web cam for Tracy and Ann). At least we have Skype (our new best friend)! Yesterday was the famous, most important celebration of the year, Inti Raymi, the Inca celebration of the Sun, complete with parades, costumes, dancing, and riots (the equivalent of Mardi Gras-Peruvian style). Pictures and hopefully videos to come.

hey ladies,
The pictures are terrific. You guys really know what you are doing between pics and tech to get them to us. Keep it coming.
Warning to Sarah..David is expecting travel gifts when you return..not associated with the birthday gift he knows you will have for him later. He is 23 today.
Enjoy your travels and keep up the pics. Could a voice-over travelog be far away?
Love,
Doug
Hey girls! I don't really have much of an update because I've been doing nothing but working. I've been putting in a LOT of hours these past few days, so I'm a bit tired.
I've been enjoying the posts...but since they block this website at work I can't enjoy them all the time. :-)
Glad you are all having fun!
Melissa
P.S. V's blind date is with a Filipino named Pat. No, it isn't J's Pat, but that would be REALLY funny if it was.
Wow, Wow, Wow...I love the video, what fun, a celebration of your arrival in your honor! The colors are amazing! The town looks beautiful too. Keep them comin! I am off to record a radio spot on B95 for "Meet Me at the Fair" our fundraiser, love ya!!! Mom
ladies - I don't suppose any of you could make it back, briefly, to participate in softball at 4pm on Saturday? We're two people short...
Hi girls: I got your message that you have lost your cell phones and are off to Machupicchu and the amazon, so you will be out of internet contact. This sounds like another wonderful adventure...and Mary, what a wonderful way to spend your birthday, MONDAY, JUNE 30th, in Peru, South American and in a sacred ancient city! HAPPY Birthday in advance and on Monday, ...LOOOOOVE & HUGGGS TO YOU!!! Mom and Dad
Lost your cell phones? That can't be good. But, way to look for the silver lining Mrs. Mathey!
As for V-D8, Patrick (he does have a name) and I are meeting in Wrigleyville for drinks on Monday evening... obviously, to celebrate Mary's birthday.
Have fun girls, sounds like you're still doing all things amazing :)

Happy Birthday dear daughter, hope you have a wonderful celebration on Monday to honor your 27th birthday, please call or skype whenever you get back to Cusco and have internet connections, so that I can tell you happy birthday too!
We went to Sara's wedding on Saturday, it was a lovely, sweet ceremony, and Sara was beaming and beautiful!!! Rachel took some pictures that she will send to me once she gets back from NY and I will send them to you. Ms. Hennigan gave me the spanish words to Happy Birthday. Everyone is so amazed at hearing about your adventures, I have shared your blog-site with many of our friends and family, so even if they are not writing you comments here, I know alot of them are reading about your amazing journey. Keep the photos and stories coming. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE YA!!! Mom
I have more updates on life back here. Really, that's code for I am waiting for you to post more pictures and stories from your lives (cause they're way more interesting!)
But, alas, here it is. I went down to Chicago last night with my friend Tom, where we met up with Sharon, and Annie (who flew in from D.C. for the weekend). We had tapas for dinner (at Emilio's) along with a little Sangria :) Then, we went and saw Jersey Boys, which might I add made us feel like twelve year olds, since the next youngest person in the theatre was easily 40. Either way, we sang the songs and I think all the adults around us were slightly amazed that we knew them! I was proud.
And now I just have to prep a few lovely zoo tours for some 6 year olds tonight. BUT, I only have a 2 day work day this week! Happy 4th of July to me! :) My work is way cool, and gives us July 2, 3, and 4 off!
Oh, and update...I learned more zoo songs, so the next time you guys want to laugh at me singing a song about being a penguin, you let me know. We will Skype and you will die laughing...I promise!
That is all for now, but I hope you all had a ton of fun this weekend. Can't wait to read about it!
Love,
Amanda
Happy Birthday, Mary!!!
No big weekend updates. Had a wedding on Saturday and just taking care life stuff on Sunday. I'll let Doug take care of the biggest sports news from the weekend. I'll just say that revenge is sweet!
Love,
Beth
PS Hot tub removal, today. Woo hoo!!!
Welcome back, ladies! We have all missed you and are looking forward to hearing about your weekend trip.
It was a fairly quiet weekend in Sycamore ... a few White Sox vs. Cubs games (weekend stats to be provided by Doug) and dinner with my oldest cousin, David and his wife Sandy. They are from FL and were visiting Chicago for the week.
I like Joyce, have shared your blog with a couple of family members including David and Sandy and Uncle Mike. You should be hearing from them soon.
Doug and I had lunch with Mr. Phillips today. He was in town for a couple of hours. They officially moved over the weekend
:( - we are going to miss them!
Enough about us. Sarah - if you don't get in too late tonight, try to skype otherwise I will look to connect with you sometime tomorrow.
Love,
Mom
