Cruisin' In Colca Canyon
Hey Everyone! We had the most amazing trip to Colca Canyon over the last two days, which is similar (but still not quite as cool) as the Grand Canyon. We saw tons of alpacas (they are the cutest!) and other animals in the mountains and valleys. We did lots of hiking, hanging out in hammocks, and tasting of traditional Peruvian food. Last night we went swimming in natural hotsprings, some indoors and some outdoors. It was beautiful swimming outside looking at the mountains and drinking cocoa sours (drinks made with cactus). It doesn't get better than that! We went to a market today where the locals sell all their wares. Donkeys were a common form of transportation assistance in carrying the family's purchases back to their house and our bus had to make frequent stops for cows and donkeys in the middle of the road. After a stunning four hour bus trip through the mountains we are back in Arequipa in our fancy hotel. Tomorrow we are off to Puno to Lake Titicaca (the highest lake in the world), which should be amazing! We are staying at a hotel when we get into town but the next night we are staying with two families, whose homes are on the reeds on the lake. Internet probably won't be available so we might have to talk to you the following day (Friday) from Cusco. Hope everyone is enjoying summer :)

Hey Mar and friends! I am really enjoying the blogs and pics. I admire your sense of adventure! I am looking forward to reawding more. Have fun and be safe. I am off to watch the Bachelorette!
Miss you Mar,
Shari L. :-)
Hi, girls.
Sounds like you've had an amazing couple of days. The scenery you are describing sounds beautiful ... I can almost see it through your description.
Sarah - sorry I missed you tonight. It was our first Monday Night Women's Golf League. We had fun ... but not to much of that was the actual golf game.
Have safe travels. Call or write when you can.
Love,
Mom
hey ladies - Not too much to report here, but looks like you're having an amazing time. Have fun!

oh my god, I can hardly even look at this, I want to be there so badly. You guys look like you are having an amazing time! Kudos to Tracey on the Nazca lines non-vomit triumph. Also, your pictures are gorgeous. Also, who is the guy next to you in the orange jacket, Ms. Mathey? :) Also, did I mention how unspeakably badly I want to be there?
Also, I can't wait to hear about Puno and Lake Titicaca! Did you guys decide to go to La Paz?
Hi Guys!
OK, news from the home front. We lost a very close softball game weekend. V, played in the outfield for the first time ever and caught a fly ball. She is, yet again, out MIP of the year. The Vanderah fam came to watch the game and we were short people to start, do to parking issues because of Old Town art fair soooo, Mr. V played catcher! It was awesome! Kurt, V's bro, played catcher, too. V clan had terrific signs, as well. We got Tim out here, too. We had to pull him away from Euro 2008.
Just planning for July 4th. Lloyd, I'll have the kids touch the boat in memory of you not being there. The cart parade is on Sunday, which is weird, but I think we are particpating this year. Stupid Abbey Springs better have the pool open or else. New guard house looks nice, though.
J and I were invited to have wine at the neighbor's. We must have proven ourselves to be good people/neighbors. We are so suburban!!! We also found the Palatine concerts in the park that are on Fridays. We'll have to get a group of us to go, or at least the AHers. Ravinia-sih, only free = wine is the park!
Mary, I painted and stenciled a bulletin board for the kitchen and am going to (hand) sew a seat cushion for the bay window in the kitchen. I also was at Michael's looking at canvases to paint a pic for our dining room. I am embracing my inner artist.
Well, that is all for now. I don't have any good gossip. However, I did see a Peruvian boy in a pic! I don't think he is a local, but he counts as a boy in Peru...Mary!!! (Joyce close your eyes.)
Love you guys,
Beth
Geez, I apologize for the bad proof reading on my part. I need to do a better job. I swear I can spell and use proper English!
Mary-
I am "over the moon" excited for you! I love the Gas-X picture. Your trip looks amazing. Way better then packing with two small children. Stay Safe!
